On June 16, 2016 the Shanghai Disney Resort celebrated its opening with a dedication ceremony in front of the Enchanted Storybook Castle at Shanghai Disneyland.
Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger dedicated the park saying, “To all who come to this happy place, welcome. Shanghai Disneyland is your land. Here you leave today and discover imaginative worlds of fantasy, romance, and adventure that ignite the magical dreams within all of us. Shanghai Disneyland is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese. It was created for everyone bringing to life timeless characters and stories in a magical place that will be a source of joy, inspiration, and memories for generations to come.”
Following Iger’s dedication speed, the mayor of Shanghai spoke and was followed by the vice premier of State Council of China. The vice premiere noted that the rain was a good sign for the future of Shanghai Disneyland.
Disney CEO and Shanghai Party Secretary then came to the stage for the ribbon cutting and the opening of the Shanghai Disney Resort. Following the ribbon cutting, entertainers came on the stage in front of the castle for a dedication performance. As the performance continued, Disney characters joined the performance before it ended with fountains, fireworks, and the announcement that “Shanghai Disney Resort is now open!“
