‘Aladdin’ Director Ron Clements Brings Truth to a Speculation We Have Been Wondering for Years

With the recent release of Disney’s Aladdin on a variety of formats such as Disney Movies Anywhere and Blu-Ray, the Diamond Edition also brings forth some great insight on the film. E! News shared a fun story.

Directors of the film, Ron Clements and John Musker, brought truth to a question we have been wondering for so long. If you have seen the movie, which I hope you have, the beginning merchant character appears to be a lot like the Genie. For years, we wondered if the two were related.

Are they?!

Clements cleared things up real fast. Here is what he had to say, “I saw something that speculates that the peddler at the beginning of Aladdin is the Genie. That’s true!” He went on to add, “That was the whole intention, originally. We even had that at the end of the movie, where he would reveal himself to be the Genie, and of course Robin did the voice of the peddler. Just through story changes and some editing, we lost the reveal at the end. So, that’s an urban legend that actually is true.”

Now we know the answer and the movie makes even more sense now!

Did you ever wonder if the two characters were related?
