Walt Disney Company Reportedly to License ‘Star Wars’ Films to Netflix Latin America

As Netflix continues to grow in popularity, the advancements of film series and brand selections have vastly expanded over the years. One new film series that may soon make its ways to Netflix are that of the Star Wars films, according to the Wall Street Journal.

But, before we all start to rejoice, this new licensing deal will only be applicable with Netflix in Latin America. The reason for this move is to increase the awareness of the franchise itself in areas that it may not be so well known.

Walt Disney Co. is in talks with Netflix Inc. to put the five “Star Wars” movies it controls on the digital streaming service in Latin America, said people with knowledge of the discussions.

The “awareness” of the franchise itself is well known in locations such as the United States and Europe, so with this new deal in talk, more would have the chance to view the films at their fingertips. This move would come just in time before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 18, 2015, in the United States. Disney also had a similar deal like this over in China with Tencent Holdings, Ltd., that was also announced this week.

What are your thoughts on this proposed licensing agreement?
