‘Tangled’ Animated Series Coming to Disney Channel

Disney’s popular film Tangled is set to become an animated series. News broke early Wednesday morning as the show is said to premiere on the Disney Channel in 2017.

According to Variety, Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will return and continue with their previous roles as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Success from the film as well as the Tangled short “Tangled Ever After,” helped push forward the concept of an animated series.

Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater are said to join in on the project creating music for the series. In addition, Chris Sonnenburg will executive produce and Shane Prigmore will be co-exec producer and creator director, according to the article.

Jase Ricci will be the story editor and Kevin Kliesch will be the series’ score composer.

Entertainment Weekly said the series “takes place after the movie but before the short film, and follows Rapunzel as she gets to know her parents, her kingdom, and the citizens of Corona.”

Gary Marsh, president and CCO of Disney Channels Worldwide said, “The genius of the original movie was its seamless blending of cinematic adventure, character-driven comedy and touching emotion. And we are fortunate to have several of the creative talent from that movie on board with this new production. With the addition of Chris and Shane as executive producers, we have the perfect team in place to create a series worthy of the original film.”

I’m so excited! At first I was worried because Tangled is my favorite and I don’t want them to mess up that in any way… but they have so many great people working on this!
