John Williams to record Star Wars: The Force Awakens score in Los Angeles, CA

For the first six Star Wars films, the scores were recorded at Abbey Road Studios (yea, that place The Beatles liked to record) under the baton of John Williams in London, England. He also wrote these iconic works of music. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will still have John Williams writing the music and conducting it… but it won’t be in London with the London Symphony Orchestra. Instead, the score for this new Star Wars film will be recorded in Los Angeles with other talented musicians that Williams has worked on scores with during his multi-decade career. The orchestra in Los Angeles, California will be a freelance symphony. It will record the new score over the course of several months as Williams works with the editing and special effects teams for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with the very best musicians in both the U.K. and the U.S.,” Williams told StarWars.com. “The London Symphony Orchestra has consistently performed with great artistry on all six of the prior films in the Star Wars saga, and I will be forever grateful for their commitment and dedication.  Equally, it has been my honor to have worked with my brilliant colleagues in Los Angeles, and always appreciate the invaluable contribution they’ve made to my scores and to those of other composers.”

This will be the first Star Wars score to be recorded in the United States. Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
