The time has come to say goodbye to the Sorcerer Mickey Hat at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. For many, this is the only icon they have ever known when entering the park. For others, it is a reminder of a 2001 change that maybe wasn’t so popular in some circles. For me, it is neither. It is the only icon I’ve ever known when walking into Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I must admit, I really never felt compelled to take too many pictures of the hat. As I go through my pictures from various trips (this one was in 2013), I only have a few photos of the giant hat and none that I’m super pleased with. So while I don’t dislike it, I clearly am not in love with it either. It just is an icon that I am used to. And yes, it does (or did) look kind of cool.
There is another beautiful recreation of the Chinese Theater right behind it. This is a building that I have taken pictures of on various trips and I’m looking forward to seeing what it looks like once the hat is removed. Removal of the hat will take days to weeks. I actually hope that they do this in a way where the hat could be reused somewhere else. Perhaps it could go to a hotel or be repurposed somewhere else, much like the C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A letters from the front of Disney California Adventure were.
As we move into a new era for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it will be fun to see what Disney has up its sleeve. I personally find myself really looking forward to the future. Yes, there will be change, Yes, some of it I won’t like. But… it sure makes for a great adventure, don’t you think?
What do you think about the removal of the Sorcerer Mickey Hat from Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
Make it a GREAT day!
