2014 Disney Stories Countdown #4 – Frozen Takes Over Disney Parks

FROZENFUN 3As the countdown continues, here’s another grouping of stories that fit one theme or category.  This year saw Frozen take over not one, not two, but three theme parks.  Well, at least with big announcements for Disney parks around the world.

First, Walt Disney World ended their summer season with some snow.  Frozen took over Disney’s Hollywood Studios with a couple of shows and Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post.  And, in the Magic Kingdom, “A Frozen Holiday Wish” lit up the castle nightly.  The bigger news from the Florida park was that Epcot was replacing Maelstrom in the Norway pavilion with a Frozen attraction.  Though not done within the 2014 year, the announcement was a big one and even had Norway the country up in arms…well, maybe just a news station there.

Overseas, Tokyo Disneyland announced a huge expansion for both of its parks.  Tokyo Disney Sea will get a new harbor/land, while a New Fantasyland will debut there.  As part of the overall expansion, they announced a Frozen attraction will appear there as well.  Frozen has been an overwhelming hit in Japan, so it’s natural to debut something at the parks there.  What it will be exactly is still to be heard and seen.  And, how it fits into the expansion is yet to be seen too.  Nonetheless, it’s sure to be a hit.

EPCOT stave church frozenLastly, but not leastly, is the most recent presence of Frozen in Disney parks.  This time it turns up at the Disneyland Resort.  Disney California Adventure was “Frozen over” with the Hollywoodland area giving ground to Frozen.  December saw the move of Anna and Elsa from Fantasyland in Disneyland to the Animation Building at Disney California Adventure.  A whole walled off area takes guests inside the castle of Frozen to see Anna and Elsa and snap a picture with them.  Outside, a nightly Frozen celebration lets guests dance and watch ice pickers as they celebrate the movie.  In the Muppet Vision 3D theater a Frozen sing along similar to the one in Florida gives guests entertainment as they wait for Elsa to arrive.  Yet to be open is Olaf’s area in Stage 17, but he is still on hand to get pictures with guests outside.

Over in the Disneyland park, Frozen set up residence in Storybook Land Canal Boats, and became the newest addition to the opening day attraction since 1994.  It’s been announced that a new Frozen story show will debut in the Fantasy Faire Theater which is beside the castle.  Even before that, a new Frozen themed float had its own pre parade in the summer, and became a staple in the Christmas Fantasy Parade.

2014 could be known as the year of Frozen with all these additions that have come to the resorts.  Still more will premier next year, but this has certainly been a major time of Frozen coming to the various Disney resorts.  Check out the coverage below, including videos!
