It appears that Star Trek 3 now has a director: Justin Lin. According to Entertainment Weekly, Deadline, and Trek Movie, the director known for reviving The Fast and the Furious franchise will be taking the director’s chair for Star Trek 3. He is replacing Roberto Orci who originally was slated to direct the newest Trek movie and is still a writer and producer for the film. J.J. Abrams, who directed the previous two Trek films will also be on board as a producer.
At this point it is unknown if Lin will change the script at all or if the script is considered done. It is commonly thought that the film will be released in 2016 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the franchise. With Lin being known for action and car crashes, it will be interesting to see what direction the 3rd movie of this rebooted Trek franchise goes. There have been rumors that Paramount execs wanted a more Guardians of the Galaxy feel for this movie. Could we be looking at a funnier movie with a lot more action than previous films? Only time will tell as there are a lot of unknowns at this point. What does appear to be known is that the movie has a director.
What do you think of Justin Lin as the director for Star Trek 3? Is this the right direction for the Star Trek franchise?
Make it a GREAT day!
