A Remake of 'Pete's Dragon' in the Works

Going along with the new trend of remaking Disney classics such as Cinderella and The Jungle Book into live action films, here is another remake to add to that list; Pete’s Dragon. Some of you may be cringing at the sound of a remake. The 1977 classic starring Mickey Rooney, follows a young orphaned boy and his dragon. Pete’s Dragon encompasses both live action and 2D animation, making the film pretty memorable.

David Lowery is set to direct the film. He is also known for directing Ain’t Them Bodies Saints. This remake is said to occur in the 1990s, giving it a modern approach. Cast as Pete will be Oakes Fegley and Oona Laurence as the daughter of a mill owner. In addition, word has been mentioned that Robert Redford may have a part within the film as well. According Screen Rant, the potential role would include “a local who tells tales involving dragons that no one believes.”

  1. I’m curious about this and I really don’t know what I think about it… I guess time will tell. It seems like a good production team and cast so far though? I just don’t know..

My first reaction was me getting a little excited, but then I realized how much I love and still love the first one. One of the things that made the first one so great was the cast and the amazing music with it. Do we know if this remake will be music free? As in, it won’t be a musical.

    1. I haven’t heard anything about it being a musical… it kind of would be hard for me to imagine it being one…

      1. The original was, so it will be interesting to see which route they take.

        1. So very true…can’t wait to hear more details!
