Peyton Reed to Direct Ant-Man and Adam McKay to Write

Ant-Man LogoThe geek world has watched with amusement, and perhaps concern, as the drama surrounding Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man movie has unfolded after the departure of Edgar Wright from the project. Now, director Peyton Reed will take the helm in what is sure to be a sprint to the finish line to release Ant-Man on July 17, 2015.

The drama began when Edgar Wright departed from the movie over “creative differences” with Marvel Studios and led to a flurry of speculation as different directors were rumored to be considered to take over. Even Adam McKay was thrown into the mix. Now it appears the Anchorman team will be taking over and we will see what the finished product is next summer.

Ant-Man Official Announcement

When Marvel’s “Ant-Man” hits theaters July 17, 2015, director Peyton Reed will help shepherd the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cast led by Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with writer Adam McKay contributing to the film’s script.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

So what do you think?

Personally I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of this. Time will be a bit short but it can be assumed that this new team will be reworking the basic script that is already in place rather than starting from square one. I think they are both incredibly talented and their work on Anchorman… hilarious. You can bet that the geek community will be watching how they play with Marvel and how this movie turns out. To date, Marvel continues to make bigger and better (at least on graph paper) movies with each release. Will Ant-Man continue the streak of success or will it be the first Marvel movie to shrink?

Only time will tell. What are your thoughts on this announcement?

Make it a GREAT day!
