The home that is Walt and Roy Disney’s birthplace is going to be restored if a group from Chicago get their way. This house is on the corner of Tripp Avenue and Palmer Street and was designed and built by Elias and Flora Disney.
“ON BEHALF OF THE DISNEY FAMILY, WE ARE SO PLEASED TO SEE WALT DISNEY’S HISTORIC BIRTHPLACE AND FAMILY HOME BEING RESTORED TO ITS HUMBLE ORIGINS IN THE CITY OF CHICAGO. THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT AND EXCITEMENT WE’VE SEEN FROM BOTH CITY OFFICIALS AND DISNEY FANS ALIKE HAS BEEN SIMPLY WONDERFUL, AND THIS IS TRULY A FITTING WAY TO HONOR BOTH WALT AND ROY O. DISNEY, THE PIONEERING BROTHERS WHO FOREVER CHANGED THE FACE OF FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT, AND, OF COURSE, WILL FOREVER BE TWO OF CHICAGO’S MOST PROMINENT NATIVE SONS.”Roy Patrick DisneyGrandson to Roy O. Disney and Walt’s Great Nephew
The effort underway to restore the house is led by owners Dina Benadon and her husband Brent Young. They purchased the house and have been working with the city of Chicago to preserve the house and restore it to it’s 1901 condition. The goal then is to create a museum that can share the true origin story of Walt and Roy Disney.
Currently a Kickstarter fundraiser is underway to back the renovation of the house. The goal is to raise $500,000 by by The Walt Disney Birthplace Preservation Project. A website has also be created with more information about this project and can be found here: http://www.thewaltdisneybirthplace.org/ Information on this website includes updates on project progress, professionals who are involved in the effort, and information about who is supporting and how to support.
