Saving Mr. Banks First Official Photo

The first official photo for Saving Mr. Banks has been released by Time. In it, Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) can be seen waving as he walks with P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) who doesn’t look like she is really enjoying Disneyland all that much.

Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks is the story of the struggle to get Mary Poppins, the Disney classic film, made. P.L. Travers wrote the stories surrounding the magical nanny and Walt Disney’s girls loved them. He made a promise to bring these stories to the big screen that would take 20 years to fulfill. Walt Disney never realized what a difficult promise this would be to keep. Travers was very protective of her work and wasn’t too keen on changes to her stories for a Hollywood adaptation. As so often is the case though, money from the books dried up and suddenly P.L. Travers found herself in Hollywood, talking with Mr. Disney about how Mary Poppins could be made into a full feature film.

For two weeks Walt Disney throws all the Disney magic he can muster at P.L. Travers..to no avail. Digging deep into his old childhood, he finally connects with her fears and is able to go on and create a movie that epitomizes the Disney family film.

Saving Mr. Banks will be in limited release on December 13, 2013 with a wide release coming on December 20, 2013.  Are you excited for it?
