DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs

Cinderella is the classic story of a young maiden who is living the life of a servant in what was once her own house. She lives with her stepmother and stepsisters who treat her miserably. Through the drudgery though, she continues to dream and treat people kindly. When a ball is announced for the returning prince, every eligible maiden is commanded to attend… Cinderella hope this includes her…however her stepsisters and stepmother have other plans. As her family rides off to the ball, Cinderella finds herself in garden in tears… hope is nearly gone… and that is when a little Disney magic happens and Cinderella finds herself riding to the ball and towards true love in a beautiful pumpkin carriage.

Picture and Sound:

Cinderella: Diamond Edition looks and sounds phenomenal. I absolutely love when they go the extra mile to make things look and sound great. The color and clarity really added to the value of this movie. It created a vibrant experience that was like watching a new movie instead of one that is over sixty years old! Equal care was put into the remastering of the sound. It came in two options. The first was the 7.1 surround sound that sounds amazing. The second was the original mono presentation. Both of them were a treat to listen to. It was very easy to pick out the quality difference from the DVD I reviewed several years ago.

Bonus Features:

I was very pleased with the bonus features included in the Cinderella: Diamond Edition collection:

Here is a list of the bonus features:

  • Diane Disney Miller Introduction – A nice introduction by the daughter of Walt Disney along with an invitation to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum. It was very fitting and I would love to see more introductions done in this way. It really added a personal touch.
  • Classic Backstage Disney DVD Features – This was a collection of bonus features that were released on DVD in 2005. There are a LOT of bonus features here and these are worth watching. They are not in HD however. A bulk of the bonus features are found here.
  • Deleted Scenes – Three deleted scenes are found here in original art and storyboard form.
  • Cinderella Alternate Opening Sequence – A different opening of Cinderella that uses original storyboards and is revoiced. It was fun to see the art work but the voice could use a little work.
  • Backstage Disney: Diamond Edition – This has three bonus features included here. It was also where my favorite bonus feature was found. The Real Fairy Godmother was by far my favorite bonus feature included in this collection. It takes a very touching look at the woman who was a living inspiration for the Fairy Godmother and really was one in real life. Behind the Magic: A New Princess Fantasyland looks at the renovation of Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Finally, The Magic of a Glass Slipper: A Cinderella Story takes a look at the Christian Louboutin who just so happened to create glass slippers in honor of this release.
  • Tangled Ever After – A short that takes place during the wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider but focuses on Pascal and Maximus and their roles in the wedding. I’m not going to say much about it but I will say that my entire living room was cracking up as we watched it. I completely enjoyed it.
  • Classic Music & More – Audio recordings from Cinderella that were used and not used along with some other special goodies.
  • Personalized Digital Storybook: Bibbidi-Bobbidi-You – This is the second screen presentation that is included with Cinderella: Diamond Edition. This technology is amazing and I love it.
  • Disneyview – While not necessarily a bonus feature, it is an enhancement that can be added to the movie. It allows for artwork to be inserted into the black dead space on either side of the movie. I will admit I do enjoy watching with this turned on.

There were quite a few bonus features included with Cinderella: Diamond Edition. This continues a trend of quality bonus features for the Diamond Edition series. I found several of these to be incredible enjoyable to watch and almost all of them worth watching at some level. They definitely are worth the title of Diamond Edition and also worth paying for.

Overview:

Cinderella: Diamond Edition really was an enjoy to review. This is a beautiful story that is the perfect example of Disney magic in a Disney movie. It is a family friendly movie that is a must have for your blu-ray collection. It looks and sounds great. The bonus features are enjoyable. Cinderella is as charming and beautiful as ever. A hearty hat tip goes to Cinderella: Diamond Edition. Go out and get it.
