The Rescuers & The Rescuers Down Under – Blu-Ray Review by Mr. DAPs

DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs

In The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under, Disney tells the story of other mice besides the big cheese that we all know and love. These mice are mice with a mission. In both of these movies they are out to save a child. Of course, each mission takes place in separate places but they have the same heart and feel to each. They are about mice who dare to care and go beyond what could seem like their limits.

Picture and Sound:

Both of these movies came out looking and sounding better than I remembered seeing them before. The Rescuers I hadn’t seen in years and it was wonderful to see it return and look better than I’d ever seen before. The Rescuers Down Under is a newer movie (ok, not THAT new but compared to the original) and wasn’t ever in as bad of shape as my old VHS copy of the original but it still looked great. Of the two, it sounded better but this was no surprise. Both of these were a pleasure to watch and I’m always happy when picture and sound aren’t a distraction.

Bonus Features:

There weren’t a ton of bonus features included with these movies but a few were offered. Here is a brief look:

  • Deleted Song – Director Ron Clements goes through and shares storyboards for a song entitled “Peoplitis.”
  • Water Birds: A True Life Adventure – A real life look at the albatross.
  • Sing-Along Song – “Someone’s Waiting for You” sing-along.
  • The Making of The Rescuers Down Under – A very quick look at the making of this movie.

Overview:

The Rescuers & The Rescuers Down Under are two enjoyable movies that perhaps don’t represent the best of what Disney has to offer, but they do represent the heart of what Disney has to offer. They are heartwarming flicks. They have some amazing voice talent. They are fun family films. They aren’t home runs in the Disney animated collection but they definitely are enjoyable. So with that, I’ll give a small hat tip to them and encourage you to go out and grab this blu-ray.
