Last night guests and cast members alike were visibly alarmed when several explosions, that sounded like fireworks, were heard at Disneyland approximately ten minutes before the start time for Remember…Dreams Come True. Initially, two explosions that sounded like fireworks, could be heard. This clearly wasn’t something planned as guests and cast members alike all looked around in alarm in the store I was in at the time. Upon walking out into the street and towards Sleeping Beauty Castle, a couple more of the noises could be heard. Smoke could also be seen above the northwest corner of the park from where fireworks normally can be seen in the sky during a show. Within a few minutes, the announcement was made that the fireworks would not be presented.
Currently, it is unknown what caused the noises heard at the park last night. It is also unknown if the smoke seen was in any way related to this incident. It is also unknown if it is in any way related to the incidents that occurred at the end of 2011 when the fireworks were briefly on hiatus.
There were no injuries reported with this incident. Disneyland Spokesperson Betsy Sanchez released this statement saying: “Sunday’s fireworks were cancelled due to technical difficulties. We continue to work towards presenting our normal entertainment operating schedule this weekend.”
