Pampling Receives Third Sponsor Exemption for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2011) — Former Bay Hill Invitational winner Rod Pampling has entered the Children’s Miracle Hospitals Classic, Oct. 20-23, at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla.

Pampling, an Australian who is making his fourth appearance at Disney, accepted the third of four sponsor exemptions, joining Tom Lehman and Joe Ogilvie. The final exemption will be announced later this week.

Pampling’s best finish this season was an eighth place tie at the HP Byron Nelson Championship. Pampling is 114th on the PGA TOUR Money List with $668,768. Over his career, Pampling has captured five professional wins, including two on the PGA TOUR – The International (2004) and Bay Hill Invitational (2006). In winning Bay Hill, he edged Greg Owen by one stroke to become only the second international champion in the 41-year history of the tournament.

Former Super Bowl star Jerome “The Bus” Bettis (Pittsburgh Steelers), ex-NBA player Alonzo Mourning (Miami Heat), Steve Young (ex-49ers QB), Tampa Bay Rays star Johnny Damon, future NFL Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks (Tampa Bay Bucs), and popular MLB player Brian Wilson headline the Pro-Am played during the first two official rounds of the Classic on Disney’s Palm and Magnolia courses.

Other notable Pro-Am entries include Aaron Rowand (SF Giants), James Shields (Tampa Bay Rays), David Price (Tampa Bay Rays) and Carlos Pena (Chicago Cubs).

The defending champion of the 128-player event is PGA TOUR veteran Robert Garrigus. He joins a marquee group of former winners at Disney that includes Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Jack Nicklaus, Payne Stewart and Raymond Floyd.

This year’s Classic takes place nearly a month earlier. The Golf Channel will televise the tournament for the fifth consecutive year. The Golf Channel is scheduled to air live coverage each day.
