Animator Walt Disney changed the way we were entertained, and he may now change the way we furnish our homes.
Drexel Heritage designers were given access to the Disney archives, where furniture from the icon’s office resides today. Drexel Heritage and Disney Home designers expanded these office selections to include lighting, rugs and bedding. While the basic silhouettes reflect 1930s and ’40s art moderne and art deco styling, the execution is decidedly 21st century. By tweaking and tinkering with the retro forms, the designers put an entirely new spin on these glamorous styles.
In addition to exotic woods from West Africa and South America, look for silver-leaf finishes, tactile leather, black granite and parchment accents. Nickel-plated hardware provides another shot of Hollywood glam.
Prices range from $750 for a blonde cocktail table to $2,599 for the black granite-topped desk, shown here. Find the collection at Drexel Heritage, 2125 S. Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Hills, (248) 454-0900.
