Eurogamer News Disney announces Narnia developers

by Ellie Gibson

Disney Interactive has announced its chosen developers for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

The game is “inspired by” the forthcoming movie of the same name, which retells C.S. Lewis’ classic tale of four posh kids falling into a cupboard through a combination of live action and CGI footage. The film is already in post-production and is set to hit cinemas this Christmas, coinciding with the game’s launch across a wide range of platforms.

US studio Griptonite is developing the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS titles, having previously worked on handheld versions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and two Lord of the Rings games.

Traveller’s Tales, based in the UK, will produce the GameCube, Xbox, PS2, PSP and PC versions. Its earlier projects include Finding Nemo, Crash Twinsanity and the soon-to-be-released LEGO Star Wars.

Few details have been revealed about the game so far, but Buena Vista executive Graham Hopper described it as an action adventure featuring “remarkable characters, heart-pumping combat and rich environments that could only exist in the land of Narnia”.

We’re also promised plenty of puzzle-solving, a two-player mode that features all four main characters, and seamless integration between the gameplay and actual film footage. But no word yet as to whether it’ll be as good as the TV series that was on BBC1 every Sunday afternoon throughout the whole of the 1980s.
